Canada 150 and Christmas Favorites

The Chorale dips into the rich history of Canadian song with selections from coast to coast. Songs from French Canada such as “Un Canadien Errant” and “J’entends le moulin” tell the Quebec story while “Four Strong Winds” and “If I Were a Blackbird” depict the English experience with numerous others in between. Ontario composer John Burge has set the Canadian poet Eugene McNamara’s work, Matins, for choir and piano weaving the spiritual, “Shall We Gather At the River?” into a powerful expression of hope and inspiration. A selection of Christmas favorites both secular and sacred, old and new, will fill the hall with cheer using a jazzy “Deck the Halls” to a modern “Torches, Torches” and a contemporary arrangement of the traditional carol, “There Is No Rose.”.
