Canada 150 and Christmas Favorites

The Chorale dips into the rich history of Canadian song with selections from coast to coast. Canada is blessed with fine composers/arrangers such as Stephen Chatman, Allan Bevan, Scott Macmillan, Ian Tyson, Mark Sirett, Connie Kaldor, Paul Halley and Donald Patriquin who draw upon folk songs and romances from legend and history from English and French Canada.

John Burge, from Kingston, Ontario, has set the Canadian poet, Eugene McNamara’s work, Matins, for choir and piano utilizing a familiar spiritual embodying both spiritual and secular visions with dramatic force and melodic beauty.

The Chorale completes the concert with Christmas favorites in familiar and newer settings to please and surprise the holiday spirit. To complete the Canada 150 celebration, almost all of the music is by Canadian composers.
