About Us

Who We Are

Founded in 1994 through the collaboration of Dr. Gary Fisher and Mary Jane Price, former organist and director at St Christopher’s Anglican Church, Burlington Ontario, the Burlington Civic Chorale has brought outstanding choral music to Burlington, Hamilton and surrounding areas for over 25 years.

The BCC was honoured to commission for their twenty-fifth anniversary concert, 17 November 2018, Faith in Peace, a work by Canadian composer, Mark Sirett with  lyrics woven from the texts of former Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson’s 1957 Nobel Peace prize speech.

Through its performances the BCC delights audiences with powerful choral music experiences with repertoire encompassing classical music from the 16th century to the present; folksongs; opera choruses and vocal jazz.

Our Mission

Conductor and Choir Performing

What is it like to sing with us? Let our singers tell you!

The BCC Singers have been part of my life for nearly 30 years.  I have found new friendships and gained a greater love and appreciation for music.  During times in life when one needs mental and moral support, singing takes me to a higher place.”

The Burlington Civic Chorale is an amateur chamber choir of adults from Burlington and neighbouring communities.  We come from various walks of life, but have found one another through our shared love of music.  We are proud to have sung for our   audiences for over 25 years!”

Note from Burlington Civic Chorale regarding COVID19

With sadness, we announce the difficult decision to suspend our live in-person rehearsals and concerts until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As our Board reflected on this situation, it was guided by three considerations:

  • the well-being of our singers, our audience, and their communities
  • the experiences of regions where the virus is active, and
  • the guidelines of public health authorities on best practices for avoiding infection and community transmission

We are happy to say that we have endured the challenges of COVID-19 and have for the time being reinvented ourselves as a virtual choir.   Our weekly rehearsals, which normally take place in the sanctuary of St. Christopher’s Anglican Church, are now conducted using the social media platform, Zoom.

Thanks to the outstanding leadership of our artistic director, Dr. Gary Fisher, our piano accompanist, Jennifer Goodine, the creativity of our Board of Directors, and the continued financial support of our singers and sponsors, we have had a musically successful 2020/2021.

We will use everything we’ve learned to keep bringing wonderful music to Burlington, Hamilton and surrounding Regions.  We eagerly await until we can be together again in-person, once physical distancing restrictions are lifted, and it is safe to return to live, in-person concerts.

Until such time keep safe and well;  and please enjoy our virtual choral offerings. Our most recent virtual offering is our spring virtual concert, “The Road Home”.
